Assam University, Silchar is a central government university which was established in 1994 after the enactment of the Assam (Central) University Act of 1989. Assam University campus is spread over 600 acres and provides an ideal environment for its researchers, students, and staff. As a UGC recognised central university, Assam University, Silchar offers a large number of qualified faculty members in a large number of disciplines to guide the students in their respective fields. 

The student community at Assam University is quite diverse with students coming from all parts of the country. There are a few international students enrolled in various courses at Assam University. Assam University offers several courses at Diploma, UG, PG and Ph.D levels in numerous fields divided under 16 schools. Assam University offers programs in varied fields such as Humanities, Language, Environmental Science, Information Science, Law, Management Studies, Technology, and many others. 

Some of the popular courses offered by Assam University are BA LLB, M.Tech, B.E/B.Tech, BBA, MBA and PGDM. Admissions to Assam University courses are based on various entrance examinations like CUET (UG) for UG courses, JEE Main for B.Tech courses, CUET (PG) 2024 for PG courses, CAT/MAT/XAT for MBA, and so on. Assam University also provides placement opportunities to the students of all courses. As per the NIRF report of 2024, a total of 97 students were placed in 2023 placements of Assam University from the UG courses and 511 students were placed from PG courses. The median salary offered ranged from Rs 3.00 Lakhs to Rs 4.50 Lakhs.

Assam University, Silchar Location

Assam University is located in Silchar, Hailakandi road, pincode-788011, which is on the outskirts of Silchar, approximately 23 km away from the main city. Students can reach the campus by various means of transport. By air, the nearest airport to the university is the Kumbhirgram airport, which is 45 km away from the campus.  From the airport, to reach the campus, one can get a taxi which will take around 1 hour 30 minutes to reach the campus. Students can also travel by auto from Silchar directly to the university campus. For those travelling by train, the Silchar railway station is located 20 km away. Students can reach the campus in 45 minutes from the railway station.
