Satavahana University, Karimnagar was established in June 2008. Formerly SU Karimnagar used to be the Postgraduate Centre of Osmania and Kakatiya Universities and was upgraded to SU Karimnagar in 2008. SU Karimnagar provides numerous postgraduate, undergraduate, and doctoral programmes. SU Karimnagar provides a wide range of courses in Science, Law, Commerce & Management, Oriental Languages, Arts, and Social Sciences. SU Karimnagar constituent colleges offer programs including BA, B.Sc, B.Com, BBA and others at undergraduate level. Whereas MA(English, Telugu, Urdu, Economics, and Sociology), M.Sc(Botany, Chemistry, Computer Science, Food Science & Technology, Physics with Instrumentation, and Mathematics), M.Com and MBA as postgraduate programmes at SU Karimnagar.

There are more than 160 affiliated government and private colleges of SU Karimnagar spread throughout the entire Karimnagar District. SU Karimnagar got its name from the Satavahana dynasty that once ruled this area. In September 2013, SU Karimnagar began its operations from the main campus and planned to fully shift all postgraduate programs to the main campus by July/August 2013.

SU Karimnagar is spread over a 200-acre campus located very close to Karimnagar Town on Malkapur Road. SU Karimnagar campus resembles a beautiful forest with serene surroundings. The nearest airport to SU Karimnagar is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport which is approximately 200 km away from the campus. Karimnagar Railway Station is nearest to SU Karimnagar which is 20km away from Satavahana University campus.
